Grease has one of the most famous soundtracks in movie history. In 1998 the soundtrack was completely remixed for the film's 20th anniversary. The remix, however, was badly done. It added new sound effects, removed original sound effects and dialogue and changed the sound of many of the songs. There are also numerous mistakes in mixing and editing. Overall the mix sounds flat and dull compared to the original. Unfortunately, this is only version of Grease that has been available for the last 20 years.
Now Paramount has gone back to the original 1978 Dolby 6 track mix and restored it for the film's 40th anniversary. The result is a huge improvement and brings Grease back to sounding like it should.
