Maria was born spina bifida and has had to endure many daunting surgeries throughout her life. She is currently battling a rare form of cancer but with her supportive husband Peter — who himself has overcome many obstacles after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed at age 21 — by her side, she continues to trek forward with a courageous and loving spirit.
