The Lost Pins: Big Bang Bar – Capcom’s Lost and Found Masterpiece
The Lost Pins – Big Bang Bar (Capcom) | Rise, Fall, and Resurrection
The game that outlived the company that built it.
In this episode of The Lost Pins, we dive into one of the most legendary, complicated, and emotionally loaded stories in pinball history — Big Bang Bar.
Originally developed by Capcom Pinball in 1996, Big Bang Bar was a bold, adult-themed sci-fi comedy machine featuring alien dancers, wild artwork, and a layout designed to push Capcom’s mechanical creativity even further. It was deep in development. Whitewoods existed. Art was done. The game was being tuned.
And then… Capcom shut the entire pinball division down.
Just like that.
Big Bang Bar was canceled mid-development and left behind as Capcom exited the pinball industry entirely — becoming one of the most famous “lost” games of the 90s and a symbol of what could have been.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Years later, Illinois Pinball (IPB) acquired the remaining parts, rights, and assets from Capcom’s pinball closure and announced they would finish and produce Big Bang Bar. Against all odds, the game was finally completed and released in 2007, over a decade after it was originally designed.
Same layout.
Same vision.
Different era.
Big Bang Bar became one of the rarest and most desirable machines ever made — not just because of the theme, but because it represented something deeper:
The last breath of Capcom Pinball.
This episode isn’t just about one machine — it’s about:
How Capcom entered pinball with massive ambition
Why their games were so mechanically bold
What went wrong inside the company
Why Capcom abruptly exited the industry in 1996
And how Big Bang Bar became the strange, beautiful ghost of their collapse
In this episode, we break down:
The original Capcom Big Bang Bar development
The shutdown of Capcom Pinball
The role of Illinois Pinball in the revival
How the 2007 production run finally happened
And why Big Bang Bar is now considered a crown jewel of lost pinball history
From ambition to extinction to resurrection…
The Lost Pins is all about the games that almost were.
Because sometimes…
the company dies…
but the game refuses to.
