Welcome to this flower field tour where we'll be exploring some recently planted rows of zinnias and sunflowers. “Sous” farmer Sam is our host who is passionate about learning and experimenting with different flowers and has at this point in time just started on her flower farming journey. Despite their poor appearance, these sunflowers are actually serving an important purpose. They're drawing in pollinators and taking up soil space so that weeds don't grow. Sam will also explain the purpose of the netting that was seen on the flowers in a previous video. This netting, called Hortonova F A, is designed for flowers. It keeps the flowers from tipping over when windy conditions arise. Sam is excited about the beauty of the zinnias, as they're her first attempt, in terms of growing cut flowers. Some of the zinnias have yet to bloom, but they're looking good so far and the butterflies are loving them! Sam will also take a closer look at the other flowers growing in the field, including the Ammi Majus, Persian Cress, Sun Fill Sunflowers, and Gomphrena. Join us as we learn about the challenges of growing in clay soil and see the beauty of the flowers in the field.
