Narcissists dont care about your feelings and that is how they can do things such as cancel plans last minute. Narcissists are self centered. Plans don’t matter to the narcissist because it is what is most convenient for them and not what plans they made. When the narcissist doesn’t consider you, they are engaging in emotional abuse through gaslighting and manipulation if this is an ongoing pattern. Of course, not all cancelling of plans is a sign of emotional abuse, but when it is consistently happening and the other person, such as a narcissist, doesn’t seem to have remorse for the constantly cancelled plans then you need to start to question whether your interests and desires are being considered. The person with narcissism is more likely to cancel plans during the devaluation stage because this is when you don’t matter to them and they don’t need to treat you well. If you consider the love bombing stage, you will likely see plans were rarely cancelled. For the narcissist, plans don’t matter to narcissists unless it benefits them in some way. The specific plans aren’t the focus, but on how they can continue to manipulate and control based on what plans are followed through. Narcissists are self-absorbed and the self-absorbed narcissist only thinks of themselves. If you can see that narcissists lack empathy and it is about them and not you, then you can make plans with others and stop losing time and emotion with the narcissist.
