Japan Walking Tour: Kanda & Shinjuku, Tokyo

Описание: This time, I walked from Kanda to Shinjuku—about 2 hours covering the route between these two very different central Tokyo districts.

KANDA: BUSINESS & IZAKAYA DISTRICT
The walk starts at Kanda Station, a major JR hub in central Tokyo. Kanda serves the surrounding office district—older mid-rise buildings, lots of small restaurants and izakaya (Japanese pubs) that fill up with office workers after work hours. During daytime when this walk was filmed, the area is quieter, mostly people commuting through the station or grabbing lunch.
Kanda West Exit Shopping Street runs from the station—a covered shopping street with small shops, restaurants, and businesses that have been here for decades. It's not fancy retail like Ginza, just functional commercial streets serving people who work nearby.
The Kanda area has that central Tokyo business district character: streets exist primarily for work-related activity rather than residential life. The density of restaurants and bars reflects that—lots of places to eat lunch or drink after work, minimal services for people who actually live here (because few people do).

WALKING TO SHINJUKU
The route from Kanda to Shinjuku takes about an hour if you walk directly. This walk probably covers the transition through areas like Iidabashi or other connecting districts—the neighborhoods that sit between these two major stations.

SHINJUKU: MAXIMUM DENSITY
Shinjuku is Tokyo at maximum scale. The station serves over 3.5 million passengers daily, making it the world's busiest transit hub. Everything around the station operates at that scale—massive shopping centers, office towers, entertainment districts, all serving the enormous volume of people passing through.
Busta Shinjuku is the bus terminal attached to the station—a major piece of infrastructure handling long-distance buses, airport buses, local buses. The terminal sits on upper floors of the station complex, representing the layered vertical organization that Shinjuku's density requires.

KABUKICHO: DAYTIME
Kabukicho is Tokyo's largest entertainment district. At night it's known for neon lights, bars, clubs, entertainment establishments. During daytime (when this walk was filmed), Kabukicho looks different—most businesses are closed, the streets are quieter, you see the area without the nighttime energy that defines its reputation.
Walking through Kabukicho during afternoon shows you the infrastructure behind the entertainment: the buildings themselves, the street layout, the businesses that operate during day hours (restaurants, shops), the workers preparing for evening opening.

WHY WALK KANDA TO SHINJUKU
Kanda and Shinjuku both serve central Tokyo but at different scales and with different characters. Kanda is older business district with mid-rise buildings and local restaurant culture. Shinjuku is maximum-density transit hub with everything built to serve millions of daily passengers.
Walking between them takes you through central Tokyo's office and commercial areas.
