On August 23, 1980, hardly a fortnight before his death on September 15, Bill appeared in the Merv Griffin Show and played on an unprecedented way his gorgeous very last composition "Your Story". The show was aired on TV on September 23.
"Bill had this quiet fire that I loved on piano. The way he approached it, the sound he got was like crystal notes or sparkling water cascading down from some clear waterfall" (Miles Davis).
I have compiled the video from several parts: Merv Griffin Show and a video extract from a French documentary on Dutch television in 2003, perhaps a combination of Molde, August 1980 and an Italian gig that year. Marc Johnson is listening and out of synch with the audio and Bill wearing two different suits!
