This documentary is a cinematic journey across rivers, borders, and time — tracing the legacy of undivided Bengal’s fabled textile heritage from its glorious past to its fragile present. Anchored in history and stitched with emotion, the film blends interviews, weaving processes, current peeks into the markets, archival material, recreated scenes, chronological study of the Bengal geo-political map across times, and ASMR-rich sound design to reveal how Bengal once ruled the global textile trade with its muslin and jamdani, only to be torn apart by colonization, industrialization in Europe, partitions, and industrial neglect.
Yet, from the fractured looms and borders in between, hope rises. As weavers, designers and other stakeholders across both sides of the Bengal border reinvent their traditions, Epaar Opaar becomes a story of legacy and a new-renaissance — a call to the world that Bengal’s threads were never broken, just waiting to be re-discovered."
