In today’s video, I’m excited to share a fabulous double waterfall hike in Mount Hood National Forest: the Umbrella and Sahale Falls loop trail.
If you’re looking for waterfalls and wildflower meadows in one hike, this is a great one to explore.
It’s a bit of a scramble to get to Sahale Falls, so I’ll also share what that looks like so you can decide if it’s in your comfort zone.

The hike begins from the Umbrella Falls Trailhead in Mount Hood National Forest. It’s about an hour and a half by car east of Portland.
Parking is in a section of the Mount Hood Meadows ski resort lot. Look out for the trailhead parking sign so you can find the right area.
This hike is best in summer, when you’ll find wildflowers blooming and trails without snow.
Umbrella Falls is quite close to the start of the trail. The trail winds through a forest interspersed with wildflower meadows. Once you’ve gone nearly halfway around the loop, you’ll come upon the side trail to Sahale Falls.
I love that this hike has such a variety—waterfalls, views, and wildflowers—all packed into a 4.4-mile loop. Here is the link to the Umbrella and Sahale Falls loop hike on AllTrails so you can find the trail map and recent trip reports: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/or...
