The black hole we’ve seen isn’t the black hole itself.
That dark ring is the shadow — a warped silhouette created by extreme gravity bending light around the event horizon. This effect makes the shadow appear much larger than the black hole itself, exactly as predicted by Einstein’s theory of General Relativity.
This is what the Event Horizon Telescope captured when imaging Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy.
In this video, you’ll discover:
Why the black hole’s shadow is bigger than the event horizon
How gravity bends light near a black hole
What the photon sphere really is
Why this image confirmed Einstein’s predictions
What you’re seeing isn’t darkness — it’s spacetime itself being distorted.
Thanks for watching, subscribe to Event Horizon, and stay curious.
