The EF-18A and EF-18B's of the Ala 12 (Wing 12) is an Ejército del Aire y del Espacio wing based at Torrejón Air Base. The wing operates McDonnell Douglas EF-18A/B Hornet fighter jet for air defence and international deployments under the operational and organisational command of Combat Air Command (MACOM) The squadron's motto is "no le busques tres pies..." ("there are no two without three").

Ala 12's linage starts as Fighter Wing 6 which was founded in June 1959 and was operating the North American F-86F Sabre and eventually operating the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter, isn't that cool! On the 25th March 1971, Ala 12 was designated and transitioned to the McDonnell Douglas F-4C Phantom II fighter aircraft. The F-86s retired from the wing with 50,000 flight hours logged on the type. Adding to the wing's invertonry were Boeing KC-97L Stratofreighters under the newly formed 123 Squadron, which remained with the wing through 1976. Reconnaissance was added to the wing's capabilities in October 1978 when 122 Squadron added four ex-United States Air Force RF-4C aircraft.

In 1989 the wing began transitioning to its current equipment as 121 and 122 Squadrons were equipped with EF-18A/B "Legacy" Hornets that remains its prime aircraft to this day, what a ride!
