A Russian woman, Nina Kutina (40), and her two young daughters were found living in a dangerous cave atop Ramatirtha Hill in Gokarna, Uttara Kannada. During a routine patrol on July 9, 2025, Gokarna police discovered the trio residing in a forest area prone to landslides and venomous wildlife.

The woman claimed she had come from Goa to meditate and perform spiritual practices in solitude. Police rescued the family and shifted them to an ashram in Bankikodla, Kumta. Upon investigation, it was revealed that she had overstayed her visa, which had expired in 2017, and had re-entered India via Nepal in 2018, violating immigration rules.

Her passport and visa were later recovered from near the cave. The family has been placed under the care of the Women and Child Welfare Department in Karwar, and the FRRO Bengaluru has been informed to initiate deportation proceedings.
