Back in 2019, Ashwin's incident response team was assisting a government agency in Asia with an ongoing attack. While analysing the logs, they stumbled upon a completely separate attack originating from the same environment. Despite being occupied, they sought assistance from Israeli researchers to investigate this new threat.

What they uncovered was astonishing. The threat actor had operated in stealth mode for a remarkable five years, evading detection and remaining off the radar of security researchers. The last mention of this actor was five years earlier by Kaspersky. Ashwin's team not only identified the threat actor but also meticulously mapped out their entire infrastructure.

Their findings revealed that the threat actor had already compromised government agencies in various parts of Asia, including the Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Laos. The breakthrough came when the actor targeted an Australian state government, leading to their discovery.

This serves as a powerful reminder of the need for constant vigilance and advanced threat detection measures in the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity.
