On 3rd September 2020, India banned another 118 mostly Chinese mobile apps including popular video game PUBG. The ban was announced after China’s once again entered into Indian territory in Ladakh.
The ban is a huge loss for PUBG as it is very popular in India. India ranks No. 1 in the world for PUBG downloads with about 175 million installs. On 3rd September 2020, China’s commerce Ministry said it strongly opposed India banning Chinese mobile apps. Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng said in a press conference that by banning the Apps, India has broken the rules of the WTO - World Trade Organization.
As per the WTO, Chinese companies have a right to do business. But India’s sudden ban on Apps is completely wrong. He said India made a mistake by banning the app and they must unban the Apps.
In August, Reuters - international news organization - had reported that India’s ban has stopped businesses of several Chinese companies in India. Alibaba, a major Chinese financial supporter investor of Indian tech startups also had to put on hold all plans to invest in India for at least six months.
