The unique Class 73 Diesel Electric loco is a perfect vehicle for demonstrating the versatility of the new v4 chip. The loco can be operated in diesel or electric mode, and changed from one to the other on the move as with the prototype. The project also features the usual v4 enhancements including different horns, door slams and buffering up sounds depending upon the direction of travel, variable speed flange squeal and so on.
The diesel sounds were recorded at the Spa Valley & Battlefield Lines. The electric sounds are from a 'wired for sound' style DVD and have been used with permission.
The model is just a quick lash-up for the video; an unaldulterated Lima body married to the current Hornby chassis, which does perform remarkably well considering. The speaker is an Alan Butcher 28 x 40mm facing down, using the entire loco body as an enclosure.
The Network South East loco has been borrowed by the CE department for a weekend possession!
