Monster Bass - Edited Arachno One or Recreated SC-88 one?

Описание: Note: The SC-88 Synth Bass recreation only works properly with new bassmidi library. Old bassmidi doesn't know how to deal with this newfound modulator trick to change the slope of filter envelope instead of the cutoff frequency.

to elaborate, a filter envelope on many synth bass presets always tweaks a lowpass filter on each and every note. the filter gets turned down like a meow.

To add nuance to this, we can change the starting frequency of that sweep along different note velocities. For that, we need to tackle a modulator. Until now, changing the cutoff velocity was a viable solution as long as you won't hit such low note velocities, because, while the cutoff frequency is changed, the slope of our filter envelope stays the same, resulting in an envelope that may catch the lowest cutoff point too quickly, entirely killing the bass mid-note.

A while back I attempted changing the slope instead using more or less the same modulator with the relevant settings changed. So I can keep the ending value of the filter envelope fixed regardless how high or low the note velocity would be. On paper, only the starting frequency would change based on the note velocity, but the filter envelope never goes past the melodically pleasing sweet spot of our bass.

Somehow this solution only works in the new bassmidi library. As far as I know, ‪@SChristianCollins‬ ' GeneralUserGS 2.0 is currently leveraging these newfound degrees of freedom in his slap basses too. So I could follow that route as well. But I can't make up my mind yet to alienate users of earlier bassmidi libraries. Besides, if I do want to make all the necessary changes, there are many more presets to mess around and quite some more time to verify that they'd sound right. For now, I'm separating the new-yet-unreleased presets as separate files like you just saw on this video.

So, who is the winner? the dynamically enhanced unreleased one, or your familiar static vintage power punch?

I strongly feel that this is not the type of video I was meant to be making. and also, what follows is completely not the kind of statement I am fond of sharing. I have noticed the method of some parameters and modulators previewed in polyphone soundfont editor to be aligning more with the latest bassmidi release. And with that, a total of 3 hopefully-unreleased-preset-updates using newfound modulators set out to be properly showcasing the intended end results only on the updated BASSMIDI. Every day, the good old Falcosoft MIDIPlayer 5.8 sounds outdated with these divergences, yet my mind holds me back seeing out-of-date BASSMIDI libraries sticking around in otherwise updated applications and DAWs. I don't know what to do.
