🏳️🌈✨ Happy 54th anniversary of Stonewall!!!. Join us as we honor brave individuals like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera and so many others who stood up against LGBTQ+ injustice at the iconic Stonewall Inn in 1969. Their resilience and courage sparked a six-day uprising, propelling the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement forward. In 2016, the first public land dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community was established, Stonewall National Monument, forever preserving the significance of #Stonewall and showcasing how parks and public lands can tell stories that reflect the diversity of our country.
Our animation series alongside Intersectional Environmentalist shares lesser-known public lands stories found in our Public Lands Curriculum. The Public Lands Curriculum aims to tell a more authentic and complete story of public lands. When sharing public lands' history, we must be intersectional, holistic, complete, and accurate. We must know the past to change the future.
For more stories on public lands, check out the Public Lands Curriculum at wilderness.org/plc or by using the link in our bio.
