Become part of the rewilding journey and join us as we embark on restoring the ancient rhythm that has been lost.

Before history was recorded in written form on these southernmost shores of Africa the area we now know as the Garden Route of South Africa was inhabited by the San Bushmen. These first people of South Africa lived in tune with the ancient rhythm of Africa while following the ebb-and-flow of the natural environment. By day they followed the migrating herds of antelope and half-striped zebra across the veld, a term for uncultivated country of grassland and savanna in southern Africa. By night they celebrated this land of abundance with song and dance around a nocturnal fire to the tune of the GORA. The gora formed part of a family of stringed musical bows that mimicked the call of the korhaan, an African bird in the bustard family after whom the instrument was named. It signaled a time of tranquility and balance between the San Bushmen and the natural world they inhabited.

Many other cultures followed in the footsteps of the first people and came to inhabit these southernmost shores of Africa, and with each wave of settlement the ancient rhythm began to fall ever the more silent as the San Bushmen and the migrating herds disappeared, and the environment took on the foreign resemblance of crop fields and exotic plantation.
