"I will stop the motor of the world."
"When the Engines Went Quiet" is a cinematic exploration of what happens when the creators, the builders, and the innovators decide they've had enough. Inspired by the philosophy of Objectivism and the themes of Atlas Shrugged, this track asks the question: What happens to the world when the "taken" run out?
In a world of mandates, regulations, and "common good" at the expense of the individual, the engines don't stop with a bang—they stop with a shrug.
Key Themes:
The morality of achievement.
The "Strike of the Mind."
Individualism vs. Collectivism.
“When the Engines Went Quiet” (Edited with subtle John Galt references)
Lyrics:
They called it fairness, called it care
Put chains on the ones who made it run
Taxed the spark, weighed every thought
Till effort felt like a loaded gun
Built a world on borrowed backs
Then blamed the backs when cracks appeared
Said, “You owe us what you’ve made”
Then wondered why the makers disappeared
Whispers started in the margins,
One old question passed like salt:
When the lights begin to flicker,
Someone asked… “Who is John Gault?”
Pre-Chorus
Every rule came with a promise
Every promise with a threat
They didn’t break us all at once
They broke us inch by inch, in debt
Chorus
When the engines went quiet
No one heard them stop
Just lights going dark
One floor at a time
They said, “It’s for the common good”
As the common lights went out
Funny how the world kept taking
Till the taken ran out
Verse 2
Innovation needed permits
Courage needed forms
Failure carried fines and fees
Success set off alarms
They praised the ones who played it small
Called restraint a higher creed
While the ones who kept things moving
Learned the cost of common need
Breakdown (spoken)
They laughed off the old warnings,
Called the question an insult,
But silence spread like wildfire
Every time they asked “Who is John Gault.
Pre-Chorus
They didn’t steal our factories
They stole the reason why
Work became a punishment
For trying to reach too high
Chorus
When the engines went quiet
The silence felt like peace
Till the hospitals dimmed
And the shelves emptied
They said, “Share the sacrifice”
From a distance, from a throne
Funny how equality
Still left some all alone
Bridge
I didn’t leave in anger
I didn’t slam a door
I just stopped giving more
Than they were willing to earn
Let the guilt roll off my shoulders
Like the propaganda on TV
I shrugged inside my own mind
And watched the system bleed
Breakdown (spoken)
You can’t regulate a heartbeat
You can’t tax a thought
You can’t mandate genius
After it’s gone
Final Chorus
When the engines went quiet
They blamed the ones who built
Said, “If you cared, you’d stay and pay”
Called withdrawal a kind of guilt
But nothing runs on moral claims
And nothing grows on shame
You can’t burn the fuel of reason
Then curse the dark that came
Outro
Somewhere out past the noise
The builders still create
Not for flags or hollow praise
Just for truth and weight
The world may never notice
What it lost along the way
They’ll just wake up one more morning
And ask why nothing works today
