This is a Magnetic Levitation (MagLev) Experiment, specifically a Levitating Pencil Kit that demonstrates how magnets can repel each other to achieve stable levitation.
How It Works:
1. Magnetic Repulsion: The pencil is fitted with ring magnets that are arranged so that like poles face each other (North to North or South to South). Since like poles repel, the pencil is pushed away from the base magnets, causing it to float.
2. Guiding Mechanism: A wooden or acrylic stand on one side holds the pencil in place, preventing it from falling off due to small disturbances.
3. Stable Levitation: The repelling forces from the lower magnets balance the weight of the pencil, keeping it floating and aligned.
