The International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecution on Friday (February 20) formally opposed a request by former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to waive his right to appear in court for his confirmation of charges hearing next week.
“There is no reasonable cause for Mr. Duterte not to appear in person in court at the confirmation hearing,” said in the document.
However, the ICC on Friday afternoon granted Duterte permission to skip the hearing, with the confirmation of charges set to proceed in his absence.
