Here’s a song from Gene Clark’s final concert on April 13, 1991. “She Darked the Sun” gets a full-blown Rock ‘n’ Rolling Stones style treatment and man does it work!!! This highly energetic performance stands as a testament that Gene and his band were making outstanding music the last time he graced a stage. Defying his inherent physical condition, Gene infuses this performance with a sexy swagger that is timeless. You really gotta give it to the band, who were all top players. They are on FIRE and hitting on all cylinders. Undoubtedly this pushed and inspired Gene to give it everything he had. It would have been interesting if Gene could have kept this band together and seen where they could have gone.
Interesting note, this performance comes just moments after the amazing rendition of “Your Fire Burning” which I previously posted. Gene and band were on a serious roll. Although he was primarily known for singing ballads and mid-tempo pieces, Gene Clark was a GREAT rock ‘n’ roll singer. How about “Daylight Line” with The Silverados? Anyway, I may post another track from this show in the near future. Only the very best will get the video treatment.
