One of my favorite topics to touch on when doing a what-if has to do with Orochimaru. A skilled warrior, named one of the three Legendary Sannin for surviving Hanzo of the Salamander in the war, he is also a brilliant scientist, though his methods are questionable at best when it comes to moral code. Orochimaru served as a primary antagonist for the duration of the first part of Naruto, and as a secondary antagonist for the next, though he quickly evolved more into an anti-hero by the end of Shippuden into the beginning of Boruto. Something I actually enjoyed since Orochimaru is such a wonderful character. But one thing important to note is that he was indeed a villain. He didn’t start out as one to be honest, but he became one quickly and left the village. A trend that seems to be repeated over and over again through the history of three man teams, especially those connected in line to Naruto, Naruto’s family, or Naruto’s teachers. The Legendary Sannin were shattered when one turned rogue and left the village. Team Minato was shattered when the supposedly dead Obito Uchiha turned rogue under Madara Uchiha’s influence, and lastly, Sasuke turned rogue when his hatred for his brother, and lust for power, drove him into the arms of Orochimaru. But an interesting story I want to follow has to do with the fact that Orochimaru left the village. He was driven out for human experimentation by Hiruzen Sarutobi who was too weak to kill Orochimaru. But the thing is, Konoha is not above human experiments as, Ironically, it was Konoha who was attempting to recreate the Kekkei Genkai that allowed for use of Wood Release. Konoha and Orochimaru worked together to create the person we now know as Yamato. Orochimaru was partially responsible for many of the good things used in Konoha to be invaluable in the future. So let’s see what would have happened if Orochimaru had never left the village.
