Kungsleden Northbound, part 4: Vakkotavare - Abisko

Описание: After 2 years we picked up the Kungsleden again. In September we finished our Kungsleden after another two weeks of hiking. This time we did about 167 km (104 miles) starting from Kvikkjokk. This is part 4, the second week, which got us - after a short bus trip from Saltoluokta - from Vakkotavare to the finish line in Abisko.

Before we continued the hike in Vakkotavare we stayed at Saltoluokta where we hoped to find our food boxes that we did send by mail. But they never arrived at the mountain station. We didn’t have any of our carefully prepared day ration packs for the last section. Big bummer. We bought as much as we could in Saltoluokta, but having an allergy and trying to buy all snacks, nuts, lunches and dinners unprepared, didn’t work out great. We started with far too less food for the remaining 8 hiking days. But we found some food in the mountain huts and got some from fellow hikers, so we managed.

The landscape was the most beautiful of all sections. We knew this in advance and it was one of the reasons to walk northbound. The heaviest day for us was the day we crossed the Tjäktja pass, the highest point of Kungsleden. After hours of steady climbing, the descent over boulders and loose stones followed.
