India has launched its first semi-high speed regional rail service called RapidX, also known as NaMo Bharat. This train will cover the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut route. It takes around two to two and a half hours to cover this route by road. However, with RapidX, Delhi will be connected to Meerut in just 60 minutes. RRTS operates at a speed of 160-180 kilometers per hour, which is much faster than a usual metro that runs at 80 km/h.
These trains offer facilities like charging ports, WiFi, and overhead luggage, making them more premium than regular metros. They also have vending machine services. Moreover, premium segments with wider seats and more leg space have been introduced.
A cool feature of the RRTS is the baggage scanning system, which is equipped with artificial intelligence technology to scan and identify prohibited items.
