Bale shredder part 1

Описание: In this week’s video I’ve been repairing a bale shredder.

One of the discs was completely knackered — worn out, rotten and previously welded multiple times. The other side wasn’t far behind either.

I started by removing the damaged disc from the machine, then moved on to dismantling the shaft. The top nut wouldn’t come undone, which turned out to be because it had been welded on. I used the die grinder and arc air gouger to remove the weld so I could finally get it apart.

Once stripped down, I cut the bearing off to get a better look at how the original setup had been made.

From there I decided to make a new shaft with a slightly improved design. I machined new shafts on the lathe, adding a thread just above the bearing location, and cut the keyway on the milling machine.

To finish off, I cut out new discs and additional parts on the CNC plasma ready for rebuilding.
