What Interior Designers Need to Know About Ergonomics & Anthropometry in Interior Design

Описание: Join me as I share some knowledge and concepts that an interior designer needs to know about when working with dimensions and sizes. We'll uncover the definitions of the terms anthropometry and ergonomics, and share examples of how interior designers use their knowledge about the average sizes of humans and how they interact with the built environment, to design spaces that make sense. Ergonomics is often used in the work place, but it is also important to know about when we think of our home. When interior designers are beginning the design process of space planning, selecting furnishings, and designing custom pieces, many times they use interior design standard dimensions, averages or standard sizes as starting points and placeholders, all of which are based on the average sizes of humans. As the interior design process unfolds, interior designers may continue to use standard sizes, but many times adjust sizes and create custom designs to reflect the uniqueness of the clients and how they will specifically interact with the space.

I encourage you to take a moment in your busy day to notice design around you. Grab a tape measure or ruler and measure the height and depth of the countertops in your kitchen. Take a moment to see if the countertop feels like a good height to you. Is the depth of the counter deep enough to store what you need on the counter and at the same time is easy for you to access what you need?
