In 1940 the Führer unleashed Operation Sea Lion, whose objective was to take by surprise and devastate the Royal Air Force. The violence of the Luftwaffe attack on the RAF was such that the British pilots were completely overwhelmed by the German forces, who were on the verge of taking victory. However, a sudden change in the orders of the Luftwaffe commander gave the RAF enough time to reorganize and thus repel the onslaught of the Nazis who eventually abandoned their objective of invading Great Britain.
