Trick questions are a form of dark pattern used by some online platforms to mislead consumers into making unintended choices, often through confusing wording, double negatives, or deceptive option framing.
To safeguard consumer interests, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), under the Department of Consumer Affairs, has issued Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, as notified in the Gazette of India. These guidelines clearly identify trick questions as an unfair practice that can manipulate consumer consent and decision-making.
