DBA REAL TALK! Dba's only allow you to open a bank account!

Yesterday I told you that registering a domain or getting an LLC or a DBA does not give you ownership of your name in the way that trademark registration does, and I had a lot of people ask me, "well what's the point of those things?" and "What is a DBA?" So I'll tell you, a DBA stands for "Doing Business As" it is a filing that you make with your state or county and all it does is allow you to go to your bank and open a bank account, under a name that is not yours. So for example, my name is Leela Madan, if did an DBA of Madan Law, I could then go to the bank and open up a bank account under Madan Law except it would still be tied to me and my social security number and it would not have any protections, and I certainly would not have ownership.
