Today I turn a Crochet Hook using a Jarrah pen blank, which I made as a gift. Turning a crochet hook is a very quick and skill-building project, which is great for beginning woodturners to give a try. I turned the crochet hook using only the skew chisel, to help improve my skew chisel skills. Jarrah is an Australian native hardwood, which ranges from burgundy to brown in colour, and often has interlocked or wavy grain. Since Jarrah is very dense, it will often dull blades quickly - sharp tools, however will leave a very smooth finish on the timber. I applied a wax finish to the crochet hook to help protect it from absorbing moisture, and to darken the appearance of the timber.
