It’s National Recycling Week from 13 – 19 November 2023 and this year's theme is 'What Goes Around Comes Around’.
We caught up with Daniel McHugh, Opal’s National Sales Manager – Recycling, where he speaks about how Opal will collect around 600,000 tonnes of old corrugated containerboard (OCC) this year.
Around 500,000 tonnes of that OCC will be recycled through Opal’s Paper & Recycling Botany Mill B9 paper machine. Daniel also speaks about the different types of businesses we deal with including big retailers and the waste management companies we partner with.
The biggest challenge Opal faces in collecting used cardboard from a quality perspective is what the material looks like and are people aware of what can actually be recycled.
