US Studies Centre Research Director Jared Mondschein says Australia and America must “deter” revisionist powers in the Asia-Pacific region.
“My perspective is the bilateral is so good, it is more important than ever to shift to the region,” Mr Mondschein told Sky News Australia.
“They agreed to in this week’s AUSMIN meetings … they are shifting to the region; they are shifting to prioritising the Pacific Islands and South East Asia, and basically helping Australia operationalise that balance of power strategy.
“Trying to deter revisionist powers, in this case China, from completely changing the status quo.”
