"La Cumbia Chinandegana" is a vibrant and popular folkloric dance being performed as a celebration of Chinandegana, a Pacific coastal lowland city in Nicaragua, South America. The word "cumbia" translates directly to dance, and is being attributed to have rooted in African, indigenous, and Spanish traditional influences.

It focuses on the joyful, celebratory atmosphere, typical of Nicaraguan culture, and is widely performed at celebrations, parties, and social gatherings just like what we have right now. The colorful attire of our performers represents the lively Nicaraguan spirit, whilst the ribbons on their hair represent the national colors of Nicaragua blue and white.

One of our fraternity brother-members, Fernando, who hails from Nicaragua (he is now in Taiwan on a school trip), had taught the basics of the footworks and hand gestures, but our dear sisters in their own creative ways, managed to improvise the twists and turns of the whole choreography. As you know, most of them only have their free time on Sundays and some holidays, so schedule was really a challenge for practice...most are not really dancers, and are already in their prime age, so joint and muscle pains were frequent...whereas regular topics of our WhatsApp chats became seeking of advises on relief and possible comfort among other agendas...

So later, you might witness footworks not aligning with the steps, when it should be left but going to the right, and wrong turns here and there in all directions and turns out comic...we already humbly seek your kind understanding in advance...

Kidding aside, it was not an easy thing to do...but they all turned-up in front of you today out of the labor of their love...In the spirit of community sharing and fun, we present to you "LA CUMBIA CHINANDEGANA."
