The scene like above is one of the pulling factors that attracts patrons to flock to the Toh Soon Cafe. The owner preserves the traditional way of toasting and steaming the bread by using this charcoal stove which is converted from an oil drum.
Located in an alley off Campbell Street, Toh Soon Cafe is perpetually packed and crowded but we were so lucky that no queue was spotted when we strolled around after our brunch. Actually, this place was not in our initial to-try list and we just stumbled upon it when we loitering around.
Customers were pouring in the entire time we were there and a rather long queue was formed in front of the cafe.
We had black Coffee their signature toasts with kaYa and butter spread and half boiled egg. Total damage was RM5.90, quite reasonable price I would say. Beside these food that we had, they also offered packed Nasi Lemak
The toasts was nicely toasted with pleasant smokey aroma, however it was just decent, as though it was just and ordinary toasts that can be found in many Kopitiams. The same goes for the half boiled egg and black coffee, perhaps their signature Hainanese Coffee is something that we should’t miss.
