Callao Cave is one of the most iconic natural attractions in the Philippines, located in Peñablanca, Cagayan Province. It’s famous for its seven-chamber limestone cave system, each chamber featuring unique rock formations like the Elephant’s Head, Rocket, and Praying Angel. The most celebrated chamber is the Chapel, a cathedral-like space naturally lit by a skylight — often featured in tourism campaigns and postcards.
Beyond its beauty, Callao Cave holds archaeological significance. In 2007, researchers discovered the Callao Man, a 67,000-year-old human fossil, making it one of the oldest known human remains in Southeast Asia. The cave is part of the Peñablanca Protected Landscape and Seascape, which also offers river tours, bat-watching, and kayaking along the scenic Pinacanauan River.
