Claims about what might improve or harm our health are everywhere, and many of these are not reliable. When people make poor choices because they believe unreliable claims, they may suffer unnecessarily, and hundreds of billions of dollars are wasted every year on ineffective treatments. To make better decisions, people need to be able to tell the difference between reliable and unreliable claims about health actions, to think critically about evidence underlying claims, and to consider the advantages and disadvantages of treatment options when they are deciding what to do.
