There was a home that we had been trying to sell for a year. We were finally in escrow, and everything was going smoothly until one day, almost to closing, I received a call from our sellers. A limb from a tree on their property had fallen.

Without wasting any time, I rushed to the property to assess the extent of the damage. As I arrived, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a massive limb, 5-6 feet in diameter, that had come crashing down from a huge banyan tree. The limb had collapsed on the neighbor's garage and crushed their car. And if that wasn't enough, a finger branch off that same limb had hit another neighbor's property, leaving a deep divot in their roof. We knew that we had no other option but to cut down the tree. However, there was another large Banyan tree on the property that looked just fine. But the buyer of the house had become hesitant about leaving the 2nd tree after witnessing the damage the first tree had caused. They requested that we cut down the second tree, too, just to be safe.

As we began to cut down the second tree, we discovered the trunk was hollow and the tree was diseased. We had no idea how long it would have lasted before it came crashing down on its own. We were grateful that the second tree was gone before it could cause any more damage.

When there is a problem, run to it and take action. Taking action on one problem may result in the solving of others. While the falling limb caused distress for my clients, it led to the discovery of the second tree's issues and subsequent removal.
