A Day in the Life of a Forensics Detective – Crime Scene Investigation Method

Описание: This presentation is on the science of Forensics, crime scene investigation. The Charlottesville Police Department Forensics Unit is structured with both sworn and civilian personnel. Sworn personnel consist of a Detective Sergeant, a Forensic Detective, select Patrol Officers from each shift who have received specialized training and identified as patrol evidence technicians. This training provides individuals the ability to properly identify, document, preserve and collect items of physical evidence utilizing a systematic approach to crime scene investigation.
Civilian personnel consist of two Forensics Support Specialist who manage property and evidence that has been submitted to the forensics unit for safe keeping and evidentiary purposes. Their responsibilities include the security, storage, retrieval and disposition of evidence, contraband and property.

Det. Jill Salyer has been with the Charlottesville Police Department snice December 2013, serving on Midnight patrol December 2013 until May 2017, Crime Prevention Unit May 2017 until December 2019, Daylight patrol January 2019 until November 2019 and assigned as a Forensic Detective November 2019 until present. While assigned to patrol, she served as an evidence technician from 2014 until 2019. In 2019 Det. Salyer attended the Department of Forensics Science Academy in Richmond Virginia, becoming a Forensics Technician.

Sgt. Shawn Marshall has been with the Charlottesville Police Department snice August 2007, serving on Midnight patrol from December 2008 until April 2016, and Daylight patrol April 2016 until May 2018 when he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as the Forensics Unit Supervisor. While assigned to patrol, he served as an evidence technician from 2009 until 2018. In 2017 Sgt. Marshall attended the Department of Forensics Science Academy in Richmond Virginia, becoming a Forensics Technician.
