This is a video in my Speculative Fiction Studies series, which examines and analyses key aspects of classic and contemporary works in the genres that fall under the broad rubric of speculative fiction. This includes fantasy, science fiction, horror, alternate history, weird, cyberpunk, utopian, post-apocalyptic, and superhero fiction, among other genres

This video focuses on Jorge Luis Borges' short philosophical story, "The Immortal", specifically on the last parts of the story, after the narrator has found the city of the immortals and become an immortal himself. As it turns out, immortality is not everything mortals lacking it imagine it to be, and the meaning of the endless life they enjoy gets diminished. They decide to seek out the river that grants morality, and the narrator succeeds in finding it
