What is a Heart Attack? A heart attack happens when blood supply to part of the heart muscle is blocked. Because the cells in the affected area of the heart muscle are not receiving the oxygen and nutrients they need, they become damaged and can die, causing the heart to not pump normally and if untreated, stop pumping blood.
