Is this REALLY the worst console generation? - Game Developer Reacts

Описание: I've seen quite a few "hot takes" in the gaming community that honestly seem a bit disingenuous, like they're only meant to stir up reactions without actually holding any weight. There are tons of accounts that pose these divisive questions every day in the hopes that something sticks with an audience, and I find it baffling that they get so many likes despite having no nuance or just being flat out wrong. In this video, I hone in on one of these takes and try to give a developer's perspective on it.

I hesitated for quite a while in actually posting this video because I really don't want to single out individuals or put shame on specific accounts, however I think it's important to call out a bad trend before too many people get caught up in it, and that involves being specific about where these quotes are coming from. With that in mind, please be respectful when discussing other content creators and don't spam or barge into their spaces to call them out. I have nothing against people who make these sorts of claims besides the fact that it is a cheap trick that allows them to flip flop on opinions at will without accountability while eroding genuine discussion with unreasonable negativity.

So on that subject, why is it such a problem for "hot take" accounts to be posting tweets like the one shown here? The reason is that people who are not informed of how game development works or don't keep up with industry releases might reaffirm their negative thoughts from this quick blurb and later go on to genuinely believe that all developers are lying to you, which can lead to harassment and further disconnect. When you write "we were sold lies" and thousands of people read it without researching further, it undoes appreciation for all of the incredible artwork, gameplay, and stories created during the past 5 years.

And blanket calling all games in this generation "slop" helps no one because developers are unable to learn from whatever specific critiques you have and players will automatically reject games without trying them. I should be clear that there are plenty of problems with the gaming industry and it's okay to critique it, but going about it this way with no nuance or respect is bound to cause more problems than it solves. Anyone with a following on social media has a responsibility to present accurate information that encourages learning/research and to not let hatred over such a benign topic be the driving force powering your community.
