Hiroshima:
On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War II. The bomb exploded about 600 meters above the ground, creating a massive fireball, shockwave, and intense radiation. Large parts of the city were destroyed within seconds.

How the population was affected

Immediate effects (same day):

About 70,000–80,000 people died instantly
Many were severely burned or crushed by collapsing buildings
People close to the center were vaporized

Weeks and months after:

Tens of thousands died from burns and radiation sickness
Hair loss, bleeding, and infections were common
The lack of medical care worsened suffering

Long-term consequences:

Greatly increased cancer rates for decades
Children were born with deformities
Survivors (hibakusha) often lived with illness, trauma, and social stigma
