Primary chords in a minor key are based on the 1st, 4th and 5th notes of the minor scale. For minor keys, the scaled use when forming primary chords is the harmonic minor scale. The notes of the F harmonic minor scale are F, G, Ab, Bb, C, Db and E. Notes 1, 4 and 5 are F, Bb and C, respectively. The first primary chord is a minor, the second is a minor and the third is a major chord. The primary chords (i iv V chords) in the key of F minor are F minor, Bb minor and C major.
