I spoke in the UC & PIP Bill debate on Wednesday 9th July to express my anger and huge disappointment at the cuts that remain in this Bill.
Despite hard-won concessions, this Bill remains a shameful assault on disabled people. It is not a strategy for inclusion or support. It is a calculated effort to slash vital support from those of our constituents who need it most.
It’s not just bad policy – it's economically reckless. When you take away essential support, you don’t reduce costs – you shift them. Onto the NHS, onto local authorities, onto unpaid carers, and onto working-class communities already hanging by a thread.
I was not elected to take from the poorest and most vulnerable. This Bill is wrong in principle and in practice. It will devastate communities like mine in Liverpool. I stand with disability organisations: scrap this cruel attack now.
