Nirav Patel is 24, from Surat, Gujarat. In April 2024, he suddenly developed acute necrotizing pancreatitis, one of the most severe forms of the disease. Within hours, repeated vomiting, bleeding, and extreme pain pushed him into the ICU. Tests showed pancreatic necrosis with multi-organ involvement, and doctors told his family his survival chances were barely 20 percent. He spent 21 days on oxygen.

Before the illness, his life felt normal, but his diet was dominated by daily fast food and lacked vegetables, fruits, and protein. India reports over 6 lakh new acute pancreatitis cases each year, with a rising number among people under 40. In severe cases, mortality can reach 15-30 percent, and drastic weight loss is common. Nirav lost 32 kg, dropping from 84 to 52 kg.

He suffered five attacks, underwent open abdominal surgery, lived for months with drainage pipes, endured unbearable pain, mental breakdowns, and severe financial stress.
