There are extraordinary claims about what sparked the mass lockdown at Westfield Marion. A court has heard three boys ran through the mall allegedly armed with batons and a machete to steal a jumper. It is alleged the teens used the weapons to rob a 14-year-old boy who was wearing the wanted hoodie.
Police say they are reviewing how the emergency was handled by officers and the centre's management. Critics have labelled the lockdown as an overreaction that resulted in some shoppers being injured as they tried to flee.
