Question-72: What is Host-ID of Class-D IPv4 addressing?
Class-D IPv4 addressing is used for multicasting, which means that packets are sent to a group of hosts rather than to a single host. Therefore, the concept of host ID is not used in Class-D addressing.
In Class-D addressing, the first four bits of the first octet are always set to 1 1 1 0, which means that the range of Class-D addresses is from 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255. These addresses are reserved for multicast traffic, and packets sent to these addresses are delivered to all hosts that have joined the corresponding multicast group.
