Violence against women is as relentless as the cycle of climate catastrophes afflicting this planet. Like the sting of a sudden slap, cruelty comes to ravage the land with fire and blood storm. Yet in El Ninyo, Phoenix rises to confront Narcissus and the land crawls back to its dark crevices.
Ominous bass intro and drought-stricken soundscape bring forth a lurking beast as the drums roll with thunder and might. Heroic guitar and anguished vocals persist through the storm until it subsides.
Swaggerland (the band) is:
Paul Vassallo on slide guitar and slide bow
Reuben Alexander on drums and atmospheric percussion
Marc Lynch on bass
Bronwyn Eather on vocals, keys and soundscape
El Ninyo is from the album 'Swaggerland' which was launched at The Factory Floor in Sydney, Aug 9, 2025.

Swaggerland
Art rock with a twist – atmospheric, poetic and provocative. Underground, post-punk alternative music made for performance and listening.
@artrock, @alternative, @independent, @femalelead, @Australianrock, @antipodeansoundscape
Spawned in the Gadigal swamps and dried on the harbour breeze, these songs rumble in from a timeless space. A whisper of paperbark, the crash of a rainstorm and the sparkle of antipodean stars.
With an instinct to kick against the tin, Swaggerland takes risks, makes adventure and runs amok with the taste of danger.
“Like children, we pale strangers dance about this country as if we own it all. We do not, yet on we go. A blithe nation. Cavalier. Careless. Unconcerned. This is Swaggerland.”

Described by one New York fan as Australian spiritual art rock with a twist, and William Bowden (Mastering Engineer) wrote the following:
“Swaggerland – It’s a soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic movie with all the beauty-in-decay that that entails. It’s melancholic, yet at times soaring, the heights still tantalisingly within reach.
The arrangements feel like a tapestry - subtle but beautiful, slightly magical with glisten and shimmer.
The more I listen, the more I become aware of additional layers and interplay. I discovered something that was subtle but beautiful in the top end. Some elements feel like they’re hinted at, rather than overtly spoken, so there’s always some mystery lurking.
In the end it’s a f**king great record really, and it’s hard to be clearer than that.”
This music was developed over a couple of years and recorded at the end of January 2024 with the brilliant engineer and producer, Tim Kevin.
Bronwyn Eather’s fifth recording, this album marks a stylistic shift from her earlier records. Swaggerland celebrates a darker, more dynamic atmospheric rock sound.
