The City of Mannheim is the winner of the "Climate Action Award for Local Government" in 2015, which was organised by the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) and the German Institute for Urban Affairs (Difu) as part of the National Climate Initiative (NCI).
Category 2: Local Energy and Climate Action Management
Outstanding commitment in local energy and climate action management, e.g. through energy controlling, climate friendly procurement, sensitization and involvement of employees, with the goal of reducing energy consumption.
Climate Action-Programme „FlurfunkE“
With the Climate Action-Programme „FlurfunkE“ (office grapevine), the City of Mannheim motivates employees of the city administration and urban enterprises in a practical and creative way to promote climate action in the office and everyday life. On the topics of Energy, Mobility and Nutrition/Consumption, the city offers the employees a package consisting of information, actions and competitions. A high degree of recognition is achieved through a diverse internal communication strategy – optimally interest should be ignited like a „Flurfunk“ or „spark“ in hallway conversations.
